Good news for Carnival lovers: the federation of peñas, which represents the Águilas carnival participants has reached an agreement with the council and the summer carnival parade will now go ahead on Saturday night as originally scheduled.
On Monday the parade had been cancelled by the peñas following a disagreement over the route and provisioning of bar facilities for the participants, but good sense has now prevailed and the bars and restaurants which enjoy custom from the thousands of visitors who descend on Águilas during the carnival events can breathe a sigh of relief.
This parade isn´t on anything like the scale of the February carnival, but come along and have a look, and make sure you book flights to co-incide with carnival next year, 40 days before Easter and enjoy the party.
The parade is now scheduled for Saturday evening, 11th August.
From 9pm, The Águilas summer carnival parade, the V Muestra del Carnaval de Águilas, leaving from the nautical club, along the Paseo de Parra to the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos. Basically this is along the seafront and then right into the town centre
20 of the peñas will parade, and although this is just a representation of the spring carnival, it's well worth going along to if you haven´t seen the big spring carnival before.
