Programme for acts during Semana Santa, Aledo

Aledo is high up above Totana and Alhama in the beautiful Sierra Espuña, and has retained much of it's atmosphere, with the Torre del Homenaje of the old castle dominating the town.
Aledo hosts an atmospheric Semana Santa, with the processions taking place through the winding streets of this Mediaeval town.

An interesting act which takes place in Aledo is the performance of the Auto Sacramental, the Agonía de Cristo, a play very much along the lines of nativity plays, which recreates the last days of Christ.This particular one is amongst the most important in the Region, following a tradition which dates right back to the mediaeval court of Alfonso X.

Holy Saturday

Semana Santa concert performed by the Agrupación Musical de Aledo, taking place in the town's Centro Cultural.

Palm Sunday
10.30am Pasacalles ( parade through the streets) by the band, Banda Cabildo de Hermandades de Aledo. Through the main streets.
 
11.30 am Blessing of palm leaves and olive branches, followed by procession through the streets.

Holy Wednesday
10pm Procession of silence.

Holy Thursday
10pm. Procession of the Prendimiento.

Holy Friday
10am  Procession del Calvario.

6pm. Auto Sacramental de la Agonía del Señor. This is the theatrical representation of the last days of Christ, a tradition which originally came from the court of Alfonso X. This is an event peculiar to Aledo and is an important element of the Semana santa week for the town.
Takes place inside the church , Iglesia de Santa María La Real)

10pm. Procession of el Santo Entierro through the main streets.

Resurrection Sunday
Resurrection day procession
10am. Procession of the Encuentro. During this there is an encuentro between the pasos of Jesús Resucitado and the Virgen María, as well as with San Juan Evangelista. Taking place through the streets of the town.
