The Regional Minister for Public Works, José Ballesta, has been barred from organizing any more visits to the future international airport in Corvera until after the regional and municipal elections on 22nd May.
The ban was imposed by the Provincial Electoral Board of Murcia, which explained that "strictly technical" visits will be allowed, as long as their purpose is to inspect the technical installations in the airport.
At the same time, the Board points out that it does not believe that the visit on 4th May by 30 members of the Association of Company Directors of Murcia, which was organized by Sr Ballesta, fell into this category. The visit was reported to the board by the PSOE, who consider that Sr Ballesta was in breach of Article 50 of the Electoral Law.
Speaking about this issue, Francisco Oñate, the Coordinating Secretary of the PSRM-PSOE, said that "the elections must be won cleanly and respecting the rules", and that he feels "hurt" by what he perceives as Sr Ballesta's inability to abide by the law.
Politicians!
Every party has not so much been "pushing the barriers" as bulldozing them with gigantic earthmoving pieces of equipment right under the electoral boards noses for the last month. The amount of meetings and political activities which have been camouflaged as "party activity" or "consultation exercises" have been beyond belief, and all we can hope for is to cling to our sanity until the 22nd when, mercifully, peace will return and we don´t have to see our mayors for another four years.
Save us from campaigning politicians!
