LORCA APPEAL UPDATE
Still taking a considerable role in helping to look after the needs of national and local people, the Lions Club of Mazarrón Bahía have just transferred €11,000 to the Federación del Clubes de Leones de España (FLCE) to help finance the building of a new centre for mentally and physically handicapped children In Lorca.
The new building is to replace the original one in the heart of the town, that was irreparably damaged during the recent earthquake there.
Combined with the €7,500+ already donated to the relief fund to help alleviate their emergency needs, the response to their appeal, from local, national and international sources, has been absolutely phenomenal – and still goes on! Building will commence during the first week in July and it is anticipated to be finished by the end of the year. Mazarrón Lions would like to thank all individuals, clubs, companies and other organisations for helping to make this possible!
You can still make donations if you wish. The new building is going to need a considerable amount of new teaching & training equipment when it opens.

GUESS WHO’S ‘GOT THE BUG(GY)!’
On a more local note, Mazarrón Lions have just supplied a local man who suffers with ambulatory problems, with a superb electric buggy. Known to many people in the area, up to now BJ’s been suffering in silence – not any more. The buggy’s given him a new lease of life!
(mind your toes when he passes!)
RECYCLING OF SECOND-HAND SPECTACLES & CELLPHONES
Another of Lions Clubs major initiatives is the collection & recycling of second-hand spectacles to those that need them in third-world countries. This service has been going on for many years – sight conservation and treatment for 'preventable blindness' being one of Lions Clubs Internationals' major concerns. The recycling of the cellphones helps to provide additional income to facilitate the purchase of items such as the buggy mentioned in the previous paragraph.
Combined with our stall selling bric-a-brac on Camposol Sector B every Friday morning, and our other fund-raising events, coach trips and the like, Mazarrón Lions are really following the Lions Club maxim of ‘Making a Difference’
