Villanueva del Río Segura displays its heritage at the MUBAM

Exhibitions in Murcia(Museo de Bellas Artes de Murcia until 27th November)

 Pinceladas del pasado

This is one of the most important exhibitions to have been held in recent years in the MUBAM, in that it encompasses 17th century paintings as well as a series of sumptuous objects from the 18th and 19th centuries. These include some of the most important currently in the Region of Murcia.

In total the exhibition consists of 20 works based on religious themes, most of them showing clear classical or baroque tendencies. Fifteen of these works of art are currently owned by the Santa Isabel Foundation of Villanueva del Río Segura, whose collection has been rigorously studied, analysed and restored over the last two years. The other five works are emblematic possessions of the MUBAM itself.

Some of the works on show include paintings belonging to the circle of Guido Reni, one of the most important influences on classical and baroque Italian painting in the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as important paintings from the schools led by Bartolomé Murillo and Francisco Murillo. These painters are among the most representative of Spanish and European baroque painting.

Completing the exhibition are decorative and opulent objets d'art such as the ‘Copón de plata', a work in silver made in England at the end of the 19th century, and the ‘Reloj de bronce con Cupido y flechas', a bronze clock made in France. There are also plaster busts of Doña Isabel and her husband Don José García León Pizarro y Boulignuy, and the portrait of ‘Doña Isabel en traje de huertana', a 1901 painting by Gil Sainz Gil.

Parking in Murcia

If you´re not confident about orientation in Murcia, the easiest place to head for is the underground car park which is opposite the Town hall, right by the Cathedral. Following the main Murcia ring road, follow signs for Centro ciudad. This takes you past a botanical garden, the gardens of Malecon. At the traffic lights you´ll see the Palacio Almudi on the left, then as you go past the bridge , get in the right hand lane and drive straight down into the car park. If that one is full, there is another underground carpark by the Almudi. It´s literally 2 minutes off the ringroad. Plaza belluga is right by the cathedral, you cant miss it, and the tourist info office is in the Plaza so you can get a map.

Willy Ramos , CAM Martillo and the Palacio Almudí to July 10th

Exhibitions in MurciaThe exhibition rooms of the CAM El Martillo and the Palacio Almudí in Murcia are hosting  ‘Un mundo luminoso' exhibition by Willy Ramos, which gives the public the opportunity to see a summary of the Colombian artist's long career, and is the first look back over his work that he has presented in Spain.

On show are about 50 exhibits produced by the artist, who was born in Colombia in 1954 but has been resident in Valencia since an early age. He trained and learnt his trade at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Carlos in Valencia, and since the early 1980s has been one of the most discussed artists on the Spanish scene.

The items on show were created between 1979 and 2009, and constitute a trip through the pictures of Ramos' career as a painter. Most of them are expressionist, although he began his career as an abstract and gestural artist.

These are literally a 5 minute walk apart. From the CAM exhibition rooms, which are right above the underground carpark, walk to the opposite end of the Glorieta, cross the road, and go straight, you´ll arrive at the Almudí after a couple of minutes.
