Cartagena council proudly hung it 11 flags bearing the Q for Quality mark on its beaches on Friday.
The Mayoress of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, participated in a flag raising ceremony for the first of these on the beach of Cala Cortina, which is Cartagena's main urban beach and is the one nearest to the city itself, being located behind the port on the main road, heading towards the Escombreras Industrial area.
The Q for quality award is given by the Institute of Quality in Spanish tourism, and is a highly sought-after mark of recognition, which gives weight to the tourism offering of the municipalities who receive the flags. Cartagena has 11 of these flags in total on Cala Cortina,
Islas Menores, Mar de Cristal, Playa Honda, Levante de Cabo de Palos, Barco Perdido, La Gola, Cavanna, Cala del Pino and Galúa in La Manga, and San Ginés in La Azohía
