Art, Photography and General interest exhibitions in Cartagena

Cartagena Spain, this is the artist´s fifth exhibition in Cartagena

The Palacio Consistorial is hosting an exhibition of the paintings by the artist José Manuel Fernández Melero from Friday 11th March until 7th June in the Sala de Exposiciones.

Exhibitions in CartagenaThe exhibition, entitled "Mutadismo", marks the Seville painter's fifth exhibition in Cartagena since 1987.

In Mutadismo (roughly translated "mutationism") Melero explores new territory with his vision of changing and interactive art which is conquered by evolution. His compositions attempt to show us that a work of art is not necessarily permanent, but can vary and mutate. The formal repetition of concepts evokes shades of minimalism, and suggests an infinite mutation of form.

With this exhibition Melero moves from an elitist art that requires explanation to a more direct, changing, immediate and surprising art. Painting, for him, is alive.

Where: Sala de exposiciones, Palacio Consistorial

When: From 11th March to 7th June, Tuesdays to Saturdays 10.30 - 13.30 and 17.00 - 19.00, Sundays 10.30 - 13.30.

The Palacio Consistorial is in Plaza del Ayuntamiento, just across the road from the Roman Theatre Museum so it would be very easy to visit both on the same trip.

"Un Momento Íntimo" ("A Moment of Intimacy"), Belén Orta, in the Muralla Bizantina

Exhibitions in CartagenaThe Cartagena sculptress explores the world of visual perception to establish a new dialogue between the artist and the public, in her new exhibition "Un Momento Íntimo", held in the Sala de Exposiciones Muralla Bizantina.

The exhibition is open to the public until 15th June.

La Sala Municipal Muralla Bizantina, Calle Doctor Martínez Tapia, número 2.

This exhibition space is doubly interesting to visit as it´s also an archaeological site, the basement being the site of the original portico of the Roman Theatre behind it. It´s difficult to beleive that the vast structure we see today was just one part of this enormous complex, and this basement was part of it.
